Memorandum of Understanding Signed to Enhance Hydrogen Energy Solutions
ABB and PERIC Hydrogen Technologies Co., Ltd., a leading hydrogen generation technology manufacturer in China, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the adoption of hydrogen as a key energy source. This collaboration aims to integrate ABB’s automation, electrification, and digital solutions with PERIC’s electrolyzers to significantly reduce hydrogen production costs.
Combining Expertise for Efficient Hydrogen Production
PERIC, with over 60 years of experience in hydrogen generation, seeks to enhance its production of highly efficient electrolyzers—systems that generate hydrogen by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. The demand for hydrogen has surged more than threefold since 1975, and clean hydrogen is gaining unprecedented momentum globally, driven by expanding policies and projects, according to the International Energy Agency.
Strategic Collaboration for Technological Advancement
The collaboration will focus on the joint development and integration of complementary technologies to optimize green hydrogen generation. Within three months of signing the MoU, ABB and PERIC will outline a detailed action plan and specific agreements. PERIC will incorporate a wide range of ABB’s automation, electrification, and digital solutions, including rectifiers, distributed control systems, energy management, advanced analytics, instrumentation, and telecommunications.
Statements from Leadership
Mr. Zhang Yuguang, General Manager of PERIC, emphasized the importance of efficient hydrogen generation, stating, “ABB’s energy management technologies, combined with their automation, electrification, and digitalization solutions, will help us enhance our operations’ efficiency and reduce hydrogen production costs.”
Brandon Spencer, President of Energy Industries at ABB, highlighted the collaboration’s significance, noting, “Hydrogen is crucial for a clean energy future and the ongoing energy transition. We are excited to work with PERIC to realize our shared vision of energy-efficient, affordable, and clean hydrogen production.”
Global Initiatives in Green Hydrogen
ABB is actively collaborating with partners worldwide to develop and integrate green hydrogen technologies. In Italy, ABB partners with Swiss utility company Axpo to create modular green hydrogen plants. In France, ABB supports Lhyfe, a green hydrogen producer, with its distributed control system and digital platform. In Canada, ABB collaborates with Hydrogen Optimized to develop large-scale green hydrogen production systems connected to the electrical grid.
